I am Yonas Endale. During the program, I was so happy. I was happy to make people happy with my dancing because it gives me peace of mind. In these photos, I am suspended in the air for only a few microseconds. This explains how I feel.
We have a lot of different cultural dances in Ethiopia, 84 dances in total. I can dance 24 of them. In traditional dancing, one dance can explain the culture of the community. Each movement of the dance explains the happiness or sadness of the community. Ethiopian dances are difficult, compared to other dances from around the world. If you dance Hip-hop, it is one dance and one feelings. Ethiopian cultural dance is 84, so you can have 84 feelings. There is one celebration in southern Ethiopia where they dance all the dances of that region, and lots of foreigners who come to see. Ethiopians love their dances, but for me, dancing makes me so happy, that I love to master them and perform so the people can enjoy our culture and remember what it means. At the HFC 9th anniversary, I had so much fun dancing for the foreigners and showing them our culture.
There is only a short time for Sudden Flowers to perform. I was so upset about this. We are a separate association from HFC, and we stand alone. Most of the member of Sudden Flowers are beneficiaries of HFC. We started working together to make films as part of HFC. After a while, we decided to be a separate association. This gave us more freedom in our work. We were excited to perform at the 9th anniversary celebration because even though we are a separate association, HFC is still our home. HFC didn't leave time for Sudden Flowers to explain who we are. I was really upset about that. We were showing our program when the guests were leaving. I was upset, but I put that behind me. I will work well in the future.
